The Void in Mental Health

In the UK all public authorities including the NHS have a duty to respect and promote people’s human rights. These rights are defined as a social, cultural, and economic right to a universal minimum standard of health which all individuals are entitled to.

However, there is undoubtedly a void in the delivery of mental and physical health care in the UK. The failure to produce a service which delivers fairness, dignity and respect has been depleted by austerity. The continued government cutbacks have flagrantly ignored our fundamental rights and entitlement to receive a system of health protection that gives everyone the equal opportunity to enjoy.

I have assisted many clients with mental health issues, both my parents had Alzheimer’s disease and I to have suffered from anxiety and depression, life often brings us situations which overload our coping strategy. Our mental and physical health and well-being are inextricably linked. One effects the other in many ways, not sleeping or eating, feeling lost and alone are just some of the effects that cause our emotional and physical strength to dissolve.

It is at these times when we need help and understanding, someone to talk to and guide us through, for if we are left without these crucial aids to lift us up and put us back on track then we fall deeper into despair. Our journey back to good mental and physical health and well-being will undoubtedly take longer to achieve.

Patients suffer, their symptoms get worse which in turn costs the NHS more to heal us. Lives are being lost through complete inequality and neglect.

If your rights have been breached, you have not been able to connect with your GP, RPN or CPN, have any issues that have affected your physical/mental health and well-being do not suffer in silence, call us for advice and support.
